Criminal Defense
                 (Including traffic offense defense)

Criminal offenses include Felonies and Misdemeanors. Felonies are the more serious charges and generally result in prison time for those convicted. Murder, Robbery, and most sexual offenses are generally felonies. Misdemeanors included theft of items less then a small dollar amount, assault, and some property crimes. There are statutory schemes in most states that make some crimes felonies, even when they do not appear to be that serious. For, Instance, a third conviction of drunk driving is a felony in Virginia. Traffic offenses, in general, are not treated as a crime. However, some traffic offenses, especially in Virginia, are crimes. Examples included drunk driving (first and second offense), speeding over 20 miles over the posted speed limit, and driving while your license to operate a motor vehicle is suspended. All of these offenses are misdemeanors, and can carry a jail term if convicted. Hiring an attorney is the best way to deal with the various pitfalls in the criminal justice system.
